“The exhibition started as an open question and became an answer during the Covid lockdown.”
March 12 — May 31, 2020

mezzaterra11 – flat gallery is excited to announce a solo exhibition of Alessandro Dal Pont (b.1972, Feltre, Italy), presenting Pattern Of The World #1 (2019), an adapted version from his recent unpublished photography series. After five years of introducing international artists and their brilliant interpretations on our unconventional gallery, we decided to refresh and re-define our space with introductory remarks from the creators of mezzaterra11 – flat gallery, in addition to the newly inaugurated platform, Cahiers de doléances. The show of Dal Pont also intends to accentuate undiscovered potentials and directions by adopting this particular format of the project space not only in its formal characteristics but in its nature of being half public, half private.

Responding directly to attributions of the flat gallery, Dal Pont’s photographic work transforms a way of looking at the personal and private elements into a universal language. In the urban and historical context of Belluno, Dal Pont inserts an unsettling body image: a close-up of his left forearm deformed by the artist’s right hand lifting a strand of body hair, which causes a limited skin relief seemingly perceived as an appearance of a natural landscape. The intriguing photographic work, Pattern Of The World #1, recalls the omnipresent gaze of everyone in repressed consciousness, that is naturally released by Dal Pont’s delicate but provocative poetic visualization.

Alessandro Dal Pont graduated from the Accademia di Brera, Milan, and attended the Advanced Course in Visual Arts of the Ratti Foundation, Como, Italy. He has participated in many exhibitions including: Tracce di un seminario, Viafarini, Milan, Italy (2003); Italianamente, UKS, Oslo, Norway (2003); Fuori Uso, Ex Cofa, Pescara, Italy (2005); Corto circuito - Coincidenze ed incontri segnici, Ex Palazzo Enel, Novara, Italy (2006); Lambretto, Lambretto Art Project, Milan, Italy (2006); IAQ - Infrequently Asked Questions, ISE Cultural Foundation, New York, USA (2007); On Metaphors, Pori Art Museum, Pori, Finland (2007); Soft Cell - Space Dynamics in Italy, GC.AC, Monfalcone, Italy (2008); Snooze, Scaramouche c/o Fruit and Flower Deli, New York, USA (2009); You are here, MicaMoca, Berlin, Germany (2009); Contractions, Dolomiti Contemporanee, Sass Muss, Sospirolo, Italy (2011); Italiens - Junge Kunst in der Botschaft, Italian Embassy, Berlin, Germany (2011); Alpenrepublik, Kunstraum Innsbruck, Austria (2012). His works are in several private and public collections including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collection, Italy. Living and working in Belluno, Italy, he is also a co-founder and curator of mezzaterra11 – flat gallery since 2015.

mezzaterra11 – flat gallery is a conceptual project space that opens up new interpretations on documentation images of contemporary artworks, by creating meta-linguistic translation as a white cube is compressed to be flat. International artists are invited to present their work with one image that is selected, adapted, and ultimately, printed for the space as a format of a solo show.
